| Remember it's a Chinese penhold style. The edge is sharp, so you need a sandpaper to smooth it. The rubber is excellent, but the wood is not hard enough. I'm a powerful attack style and the wood cannot give me a solid feel while hitting the ball. Overall the paddle is satisfactory to me. |
Very good because there are not enough options

I live in India. I play with pen-hold grip and I couldn't find any TT bat made for Pen-hold grip in India. So, when I visited US, I thought I am very fortunate that Amazon has got a few options for me.
I found this bat as a very comfortable one. It solved many of my back hand problems, and my forehand, as usual, is very fluent with this bat.
In my opinion, the quality of the wood and the rubber are not very great. I am not sure about the prices of TT bats in USA. I found this bat as a bit expensive for its quality. Final cost of this product is $62.78, which includes taxes and shipping charges. In India, I get much superior quality bats for the same or even less price, but all of them are made for shake-hand grip. I use this bat mainly because it is made for the pen-hold grip, rather than for the quality of the bat.
Another problem is, the vendor of this product has not provided any online tracking information.

Best bang for the money

PRO: excellent rubber (black Kuang Biao Hurricane III, red Tian Ji Skyline II, 2mm+ thick each, both sides pimples in), special glue, improved handle to flared shape.
CON: cosmetic (sharp edge near handle but easily removed with a small piece of sand paper, no shiny coating on handle). If shiny looking is desired, wrap the rubber in plastic food wrap and seal it with painter's tape, then spray the handle with a thin layer of clear coat paint, costing couple bucks, no big deal.
OVERALL: 6-star rated outstanding performance, which would cost double in other brands, hands down best value and best performance if you like aggressive attacking. |
A real disappointment....

This paddle is defective - period. It has sharp edges on the connection between the handle and body. With the penhold pose, it blisters your thumb and index finger easily. The rubber cover is shorter than the others, which makes the placement of middle finger tricky.
A word of caution - the vendor as of now is ATAFA, but Amazon. They have poor customer service and do not support 100% satisfaction policy. Do not waste your time and money on this paddle or ATAFA.

Great racquet for the money

Being raised in Hong Kong, where ping pong is practically a national sport, I was familiar with the DHS brand growing up as a kid in the 1960's. It was the # 1 brand at that time. I am an excellent player, so I know what I am talking about. Having recently returned to the sport after a long absence, I had no qualms about buying this racquet on-line sight unseen. So I ordered it. When it arrived, I was a bit disappointed to see the quality of the wood used for the paddle and handle had cheapened over the years. I remembered back in the day, the wood and handle had a nice finish and varnish to it. That is now gone.
Now for the good stuff. The quality of the rubber is superb, which is the most important feature of the racquet. It has a very tacky surface which provides an excellent grip on the ball, and therefore enables you to impart a great spin on the ball. If you maintain the paddle properly by simply wiping it with a damp cloth after use, you will be able to maintain the super grip of the rubber.
Bottom line: although not the best or most expensive racquet, this is a very, very good racquet for the money. Please note that this racquet is designed with a short handle, for holding it pen style, hence the name "Penhold", which is the way most Chinese players hold the racquet. Make sure you buy the one that fits your style of holding the racquet. |
